Understanding Hormone Therapies
Hormone therapies are critical for long-term health and wellness. Humans can start to underproduce hormones in their early thirties depending on genetics and lifestyle. Thyroid, without a doubt, is the most common hormone to become clinically deficient for women/men by the mid thirties/forties. That means you have the symptoms of low thyroid which are (1)mentally tired for no good reason and/or (2) physically tired or both. Your body is tired, you want to exercise but just can't make your body "go". Your mind is tired, but you want a nap in the afternoon at 35 years old!!!. Not normal. One or both of these symptoms are the main low thyroid symptoms. Then "brain fog" is number (3) on the list. You just feel mentally slow or dumb especially in the afternoon. Then, there are other low thyroid symptoms: constipation, hair falling out, feeling cold for no reason, cannot lose weight when dieting, and more. If you have 2 of these symptoms or more, you need thyroid hormone replacement therapy. Here is the problem. Your blood test for thyroid will be normal 90% of the time. So your doctor will say that you cannot be low in thyroid because your blood test is normal. That is crap!! Not true!! Medicine has been teaching us doctors the wrong hormone science for 60 years. The belief that the blood level of a hormone reflects the tissue level (your body level) is FALSE!!!!! There has never been one medical study in the history of medicine that showed the blood level of a hormone correlated with the tissue level of that hormone and also correlated with a specific set of symptoms at the time of the blood test. (that is a mouthful, read it again) Here is another way to say it. Three things must be measured simultaneously to evaluate what any hormone blood test means. In this case, blood levels of thyroid, tissue levels of thyroid, and current symptoms. NEVER BEEN DONE IN 65 YEARS OF BLOOD TESTING. So how then does a doctor correctly diagnose hormone deficiency? Symptom analysis. What is the patient feeling. Here is the proof of this: How many of you reading this have the low thyroid symptoms I listed above, and had your doctor say your blood test is fine, so go away you cannot be low in thyroid. A lot of you, that's how many. However, for 60 years the doctors that ignored the blood test result and treated the patients symptoms anyway, those doctors got the results and fixed the patients energy problems. I learned this 25 years ago from the doctors that came before me. And now I get all the great results too. Once a doctor starts treating patients symptoms that doctor never goes back to the failed blood test solution. It is not that blood test are useless, they are important, which I will explain below. So in your weight loss journey with me, I will treat you if needed. Hormone therapies are natural and good for you in every way. It is a life changing experience to go from deficient thyroid to optimal thyroid. Furthermore, hormone therapies are more complicated than I am saying here. Blood testing is critical for treating hormone deficiencies, it us just not useful in diagnosing a hormone deficiency. I have just given you an oversimplified but accurate explanation of complex metabolic reactions. So Finally, to conclude, there are reasons doctors are taught wrong. It's not a conspiracy process to keep you fat and tired. So to give you evidence that what I am saying here is true, here is one of the many reasons why we doctors are taught wrong: This is why we are taught that the blood level of a hormone equals the tissue level of a hormone. We learned 60 years ago (when hormone blood tests started) that high thyroid blood levels always correlated with high thyroid symptoms. That is true. The symptoms proved the tissue levels were high and the blood test confirmed it. Because 90 percent of the time these 2 things happen together. So then we assumed as doctors that since high blood levels meant high tissue levels, then normal blood levels meant normal tissue levels. And so therefore low tissue levels of thyroid would always produce low blood levels of thyroid. But that was an assumption based on how high thyroid levels worked(without any tissue science to back it up). It implies then if you have normal blood levels of thyroid then your tissue levels cannot be low. So your low thyroid symptoms cannot be from low thyroid because your blood test for thyroid is normal. But that is not true 90% of the time. You are low in thyroid. But doctors in this case just cannot get past the false belief about blood testing. So why don't low tissue levels of thyroid show up in the blood? That is complex physiology and cell molecular biology. But a simple answer that is accurate is just this: The causes of high thyroid are different than the causes of low thyroid. The actual mechanisms that cause the thyroid gland to over produce thyroid and cause high thyroid symptoms are completely different mechanisms that cause a thyroid gland to under produce thyroid hormone and therefore cause low thyroid symptoms. The blood test only works for the high thyroid mechanism. Not the low thyroid mechanisms. Basically we would have to get physical evidence from your body(tissue samples) at the time of the blood test to validate blood testing. NEVER BEEN DONE IN THE HISTORY OF MEDICINE. There is much more to this. But i cannot explain it here. The final message is this: We will fix your hormone problems if needed because weight is intimately connnected to multiple hormones, thyroid being most dominant.
What hormone therapies are
Hormone therapies are controlled by physicians because the main hormones are prescribed by physicians. But hormone therapies actually are natural therapies. Because a natural hormone means it is bioidentical to what your body makes. How it is made is irrelevant. It is the same structure as what your body makes. Supplementing with hormones is good for you in every way when done correctly. But doctors are licensed disease treaters and most don't know how to use hormones for optimizing health. This is why patients get so frustrated with the way the average doctor uses hormones. Plus there are drug copy cat hormones that doctors use but they should never be used for long term health. But you will be frustrated and fail to manage your weight if you don't fix your low thyroid levels. That is why I talk so much about this.
Energy, metabolism, and wellness
Thyroid hormones influence energy levels, appetite regulation, and metabolic efficiency. 80% of your perception of mental and physical energy is due to thyroid tissue levels. This is why it is critical in weight management.
